Need to replace running rigging
I've decided that, in addition to the tramp, that the boat needs new running rigging. I'm comfortable buying a used tramp, but the running rigging should probably be new. Where is a good place to buy it and what kind of price am I looking at to replace it all.
First, go to Hobie Class Assn. Website and get the line lengths and diameters. (Resources > Technical Information)
You can go one size smaller on the mainsheet (to 5/16
) and on the jibsheet (to 1/4
) - that's what comes on the new boats and they run through the blocks easier.
Then download the Hobie HOTLINE from Mar/Apr 07 here. The
What's My Line?
article on page 12 explains all the differences in line choices.
You can buy line from Rick's on-line store (this site) or Annapolis Performance Sailing or Layline.
I like the bargain bin at APS - I've gotten a couple of mainsheets from that for about half price.
You can spend less than a $100 or several hundred dollars replacing your lines. The most expensive ones will be the mainsheet and the jib halyard on an Aussie system.
Thank you much. That's what I was looking for. I've been too busy with the title nightmare to figure out what jib system the boat has. The PO seems to have retrofitted a good deal of newer equipment onto the boat. Comp tip mast, standing rigging appears to have been replaced within the couple years, and newer sails (The main doesn't have the reef points that a 78 sail would. Not to mention they're crisp and in better shape than the sail on my 8 year old sunfish).
So I'd guess that this is the rope to wire haliard for raising the main and it would be complete?
