I have a 1972 16 that I would like to retro-fit with the post-1976 step link. Obviously I have to replace the mast base, but can I get by with just drilling out the existing pin in the step casting to receive the step link pin? Thanks, Nate

Sorry you had to wait so long for your question to be answered. I sent your question to Matt Miller of Hobie Co. USA and here it is. Please if you ever direct your questions to Matt post them on this forum as well as it benefits all of us.

The link kit comes with instructions on retrofitting older models. No other parts are needed. You drill out the step casting pin (end flair) and punch the pin through and out. You cut off the hook, round off the stump on the mast base casting. You drill to the specs shown.
