I just put on my new shrouds ordered from salty dog marine on my late 70's H16. I kept the old lower forestay but replaced the jib block and the upper forestay. My shrouds are on the last holes and the forestay is at least 6 inches too short to conect to the stay at the bridles. Did Hobie shorten the shrouds and increase the length of the forestay at some point? Will a new forestay solve this problem or should I buy new stay adjusters? or both?

Yes, you have to get new forestays & shrouds in combination if you have an older boat. (I'll be doing this shortly myself.) It was done to increase the mast rake possible.

You can get by with a second chain plate... basically to make up for those 2 or 3 inches.

Yes.

I have even used a short length of 3/16 line as a temporary extender. Looped thorugh a few times and tied off. The forestay is just a temp anyway. No sailing loads.
