We bought a Wave (2010) for my daughters to sail off of our Big Boat...But I want to race it!! <img src="<>/laugh.gif" alt="laugh" title="laugh" height="15" width="15" />...We used to Race our F-27 ( Just Do It) from 90' to about 2000 and even won some nationals with it. Did some offshore fishing for a few years, but back in sailing now <img src="<>/laugh.gif" alt="laugh" title="laugh" height="15" width="15" />.....

I want to get my number, from reading the pasts post's, it seems like the Class assigns Hull Numbers.....Do I need Sail Numbers to race at HCA events? and I know I need them for local regatta's...Does it matter what sail number I use?? if y'all don't assign one.

I'm the Race committee Chairman at our Local YC on Vermillion Bay in La. We don't have a setup for beach cats there, only monohulls race, so we race our other boats there (Alerion Express Catboat), but we spend almost every weekend in Pcola on the Big boat, so I want to race some there and try to make it to the Keys.
Thanks for any info and Address or where to send the money and how much <img src="<>/laugh.gif" alt="laugh" title="laugh" height="15" width="15" />

Hi Mark,

Welcome and Waves are really pretty neat little boats.

We have several races coming up in Florida this winter, but you may want to shoot for the Hobie Mid-Winters East at Daytona, April 13-15.

There will be a nice fleet of Waves and a wide range of skills. You ought to be somewhat competitive right out of the box with your background.

We use bow numbers rather than sail numbers.

Skip Kaub can assign you a number.

You will need to join HCA, Hobie Class Association, but you can do that at the event.

There is also a regatta this weekend at Charlotte Harbor near Fort Meyers that will have a large Wave fleet.

In two weeks there will be a Wave Regatta at Clearwater Sailing Center.

I think info on both of those is in this forum.

Hope to see you at one of these.

Actually you can just pick one and if you show up with a duplicate you can always add a

1

or

X

.

No big deal.

Thanks Jack
I joined HCA last night. Now im trying to decide to put the old style rudders on my new boat. Id have to switch the whole rudder housings. But I like the fact we can use Tiller extensions now, so I wonder how much better the old rudder advantage would be.??? I wonder if Pat Green would sail with the eZ lock rudders ?? <img src="<>/laugh.gif" alt="laugh" title="laugh" height="15" width="15" />

Would I use the H 18 rudder upgrade?? That's what I found online searching for the older style

I think you should be fine with the EZ-Lock rudders to start with, now that you can use a tiller extension.

If you want to convert, H17, 18 and 20 castings are all the same as the early Waves. You will still need to change the tiller arms.

I wouldn't worry about it now.

We are actually going down to Useppa Island (near Captiva) for a major Catboat race with our Alerion catboat, feb 19 to 25th. They open up the private Island for the event with some great parties and about 100 boats racing. But I don't think well have time to go to Port Charolet.

I think your best bet is MWE at Daytona.

Umm MWE...in March...might be doable...Jack, What kind of sail do you have? ...I really need a new one and a Fuller cut sail...I'm 5'11" and 210...

Do they keep Fuller cut sails in Stock or is it a 6 to 8 week wait for one..Just wondering, I used to have a Calvert main on my F-27, but I haven't' researched North or any of the others.....Any quick opinions are appreciated <img src="<>/laugh.gif" alt="laugh" title="laugh" height="15" width="15" />.

I have a North sail and actually 2 of them.

I'm sure no one has sails in stock, but I'm sure this is a good time for most sailmakers to get something done rather quickly.

Having said that, the HCA regattas such as MWE will require a genuine Hobie sail.

Most of the other events are held under IWCA rules which allow an aftermarket sail.

Rick likes (and is agent for) Calvert.

BTW, the MWE is April 13-15, not March.

Thanks Jack,
Do you know What Sail John Sherry has?? IN the latest pics on Catsailor, I really like his sail....It looks like a North Emblem...Batten pockets are black or dark looking....I was wondering what he had. Thanks again on the correct date <img src="<>/laugh.gif" alt="laugh" title="laugh" height="15" width="15" />.

John and Mike Powers got their sails from Skip Elliot in California I think. (Elliot-Patterson)

Both of those sails seem to be as good as any others.

Here is Mike's email address.

Thanks Again,
I just looked at some Facebook pics and one happened to have John Sherry with his Sail being raised...the emblem read

Coconut Grove Sail and Canvas

who is owned by Carla Schiefer (A Class sailor)...I know that name from the old days <img src="<>/laugh.gif" alt="laugh" title="laugh" height="15" width="15" />....Have you heard anything about their sails?

Maybe I'm making to big a deal over sails..I'm just curious as to why some go with Calvert, and you with North and others with other makers....Are they all pretty close or Do people like what they like for a reason???

I don't think there is that much difference. I think the Coconut Grove sails are made by EP however.

Both Mike and John live in Miami. They got their sails at the same time.

As for sails, Calvert and North are probably the best overall.Elliot is new to the business.
I have re-discovered using Dacron sails, about 35% less money and more adjustable.., the trick is in the battens.
And yes, I am a Calvert Dealer.
ANd yes, Calvert sails have won the Nationals and NAs a lot.
