[#24618]

I am buying a new Wave to race from Mariner Sails. I read through the Class Rules but did not see anything about a traveller, please advise. Also, if there is anything that I should request for the new boat at the dealer please let me know.

Travelers are not class legal. Not to mention they don't give you much advantage either in most cases.
Downhaul or Cunningham allows no moving blocks.., only 8' of line.
The sail must measure in.
That is about it.
Don't know where you are located, but there a lot of venues going now for Wave racing. Upcoming really quick is the Midwinters East in Panama City, the last weekend of March. Should be a good one. We think we will have at least a dozen boats in the class.
For schedules click on events above, and also go to www.waveclass.org for list of events.

Rick,
Thank you very much for the advice. I am in Texas at Hobie Fleet 23. Can't make it to Panama City but I am planning on some of the other events this year. I hope to make it to a seminar of yours this year also. Making the transition from J-22 to J-94 to H16 to Corsair 24 to a Wave. It has been a crazy ride.

You could jump on up to Kansas in April. They are holding their first of the annual Wave regattas there and really working hard at getting it off the ground.
Unfortunately, I cannot make that one as I will be teaching a seminar at the time.
Think about Put-in-Bay, and the rest.
You have been in some hot classes, so I know you will enjoy the simplicity of sailing the Wave so that you can concentrate on starts, tactics, mark roundings and windshifts.

Thanks Rick, I just got permission to go to the Keys for Wave Week! Thanks for all that you do for the class and for sailing. Take care, see you soon!

Rick can confirm (or deny) this, but my understanding about the traveler is that for racing you can lock it on center, and it's like it's not there. So the boat is

legal

again.

Correct. If you use it, you will be disqualified.

Hey ya, ya'll come to Kansas (big party where a sailboat race may break out). Looking at 8 to 10 Waves commited already.
Just last night got pre-registration up and running on-line right now at fleet297.org

Kevin and Indy, we have a Lake Michigan Wave sailor coming down so I'm not buying the

it's too far excuse

Wish I could be there. Key Largo isn't that far from Kansas.

Well I think I am that Lake Michigan Wave you are talking about. I am coming all the way from the Chicago area for this race!!
I have heard all about how awesome the Wave is to race and can't wait. So here it is everyone....Get to Kansas and bring some wind with ya.

If anyone knows Chicago, or NW Indiana or even SW Mich sailors that want to put a Wave fleet together lets talk.

By the way a traveler is NOT class legal. (Just so no one can complain about a hijacked thread)

Last time I sailed in Kansas, I thought I saw Dorothy flying by. It was the Laser Nationals in Witchita at Lake Cheney. Blew 35 mph all week, and finally postponed when it hit 45.
You will probably have wind.
