Does anyone have any tips or tricks in lacing up a Club Wave? Is any special tool needed? Can it be a one man job? I want it real tight - no sagging.

Thanks,

Joe

I bought an Uptight Tramp Tool from Murrays. It started out as a two man job, but my son got bored and it became a one man job pretty quickly. Luckily it was not hard to do. And it got the tramp extremely tight, so tight that I'm thinking of backing it off just a bit.

When Hobie was supplying charter boats for the nationals we had as many as 24 boats to put together, lace up and the whole enchilada.

CABB Commodore, John McKnight, had a tool he made just for tightening up laces.
He took a flat piece of aluminum (About 18" long) and mounted a cam cleat near the end of it, then cut out a hand hold on the other end and padded it.

Then just grab the rope and pull from the side of the hull. It worked really well.

Otherwise, I find it pretty easy to just use vice grips.., one to pull the line tight, the other to hold it there while you grabbed the next loop. Less sophisticated, but it works well.

Good luck
Rick

Be careful when using tools. Each grommet can handle a big load, but when a large load is on a singe grommet during lace tightening, you risk tearing the tramp. Just be aware of the grommets when lacing.
