Wave National Championship Series and Rankings is Proposed

Shortly after the last Nationals in 2000, Dan Kulkoski of New Jersey suggested that the Wave Class set up a schedule of regattas to make up a National Championship Series and National Ranking System. Also, at each Nationals we could have an award for

Skipper of the Year.

So here is a proposal on how we can do this. The following are the proposed venues for 2001-2002:

Possible Venues

*Nationals, Key Largo, FL

*North Americans, TBA

*Northeast area – Sandy Hook, NJ

*Midwest area – Put-in-Bay, Ohio (first week in August)

*Southeast – Key Largo, FL (MLK weekend.., Tradewinds Midwinter Open Nationals)

*South – Pensacola Beach, FL area

*Southwest – Texas area.., Mid-Americas would be a good event)

*West Coast – Midwinters West in Mexico

*East Coast – Midwinters East, TBA

This represent nine races throughout the U.S. If any other areas are interested in hosting such an event, be sure to have your group contact the class association.

The Rules

* Points are accumulated with high scoring system. In any given regatta, your score would be based on the number of boats you beat. For example, if you attended a regatta with 22 boats and you won, your score for that regatta would be 21.

* The Nationals and North Americans will count as two separate races. Thus if you were 30th and there were 71 boats, you would accumulate two races at once and you score for each regatta would be 40.

* Your score will be based on your best 5 regattas for the year.

* If you do not attend five regattas, then you will receive a

0

for the regattas that you did not make. For example, if you made only 4 regattas, your fifth regatta will be scored a zero (the number of boats you beat.

* Scoring of boats will be based on boats registered.

Please Offer Your Input

At any rate, this is the proposal – nothing is written in stone at this point. If you have any ideas, additions, suggestions or whatever, do not hesitate to let the class know. You can do so by going to our web site at http://www.catsailor.com and then clicking on
