I know of a Wave for sail, comes with a Hobie

zipper

sail that's supposed to be an upgrade. I can't find any info about this, does anyone have experience with this? What is it, how is it different than a stock sail, would it have any hindrance to racing performance?

Nobody that races uses one of those.

Stay away from it.

It is added after the sail is built. Extra reinforcements are added and a zipper from luff to leech just below the second batten. You can zip off the lower panel, lower the halyard and re-hook the blocks and

reef

the sail.

Slightly more weight. Same / similar performance.

Meant mostly as a way for smaller kids to sail when windy.

The Wave is already an underpowered design. We have been out sailing in 45 mph winds with them (not recommended, however). But, last week here at PIB they were racing nicely in 25, gusts over 30.
