I sail on Angostura Reservoir in South Dakota. I sail a Hobie 16, and we just bought a used Hobie 18 that I am looking forward to sailing next summer.
Sounds cool. How old are you?
I had a 16 for a year then I moved to an 18 for a year and then bought another 18 and sold the other.
I just sold the 18 and am planning to buy an Inter 20 or Hobie Tiger in the spring
So are you planning to race eventually? Obviously its not a must but it is so much fun. I'm sure there is some racing in your area.
I learned alot about the 18 as I learned to sail on them and have been sailing them for 5-6 years and raced them for two. I went all over with the boat. Although ugly it was a great, very fast boat. Anyways... great to hear your having fun and you plan to start sailing the 18. I also have a nice little 14 that I race all winter in Newport, RI. The hobie 18 performance manual by Phil Berman is a great source for hobie 18 information. You can get it through Murrays Marine (www.murrays.com)

I am 16. I have raced once. It was in the Angostura Regatta this year. We got second to last in one race.

Click race results and go to the Angostura 2K2 link. My brother and I are Sam and Karl (Last place in the Hobie 16 class) It was fun, but there were some really good people racing, so we didn't stand a chance.
I think its really cool that you guys are carrying on the youth thing. I'm not quite youth anymore, but I've had the best times sailing and its good to see that people are still interested in it.
There are youth out there and they just need our help to get started. At Sail Sand Point in Seattle, see www.sailsandpoint.org we have a great Learn to Sail Program. This year we had our first Multihull Class, and it was sold out to the 16 sailors ages 8 to 16. My Grandson Daniel, age 8 was a student, and they all had a super time. For the second year, we had the US SAILING Fast and Fun in Seattle, and again had over 400 new sailors take part. We used the eight Hobie Waves in the week long Sail Camp before the Fast and Fun. At Sail Sand Point, we now have three Hobie Waves and one Hobie Bravo. The first Wave was donated by the local Hobie sailors, the second by Northwest Yacht Brokers and the third and Bravo by private sailors. We now have enough Multihulls to have our own Multihull Classes, and Fast and Fun outreach program. You can also do this in your area.

I'm not a youth by any streach, but I have 4 kids ages 6 to 17 and just bought an h16 that they are excited about. I will have them take a look around here and start posting. One problem is we are in NM and there is not much water real close. One small lake 45 minutes and several larger lakes 2 to 3 hours away. We will be spending several weekends on the larger lakes this summer.

It has been my experience that people appreciate water more when it is harder to find. Two of the largest and most enthusiastic Hobie fleets in the country used to be in Phoenix and Tucson. (I don't know if that is still the case, because we have lost touch.)And there is also a very active open fleet in Arizona.
Are you anywhere near Albuquerque? There used to be quite a few beach-cat sailors there, but I don't know what lakes they sailed on.
When I was a child, it was a 45-minute drive to the yacht club we belonged to -- and we went there to race every weekend from May through September. The drive didn't bother us kids as long as we always stopped at a halfway point on the way home for a frosted root beer and a hamburger.
The treat trick must have worked, because we "kids" are still sailing over 50 years later. 
Actualy, we live in ABQ. My folks live in Phoenix, I was looking at taking the boat with us for Xmas (we did not go afterall). It looked like there was a fairly large lake just about an hour north and of where they actualy live. Anyway, Elephant Butte is about 2 hours from us and there is a fleet here in NM that seems to be somewhat active. I need to get them to get their web pages update.
Any way, I am with you on the treat thing also. We stop when we go.

You should get into landyachting. I'll bet that you'll have some excellent dry lakebed or riverbeds around your home.

Well, if you consider college-age as youth, then I count. I am 20, own/race a Nacra 20. We have about 6-7 cats here in the sailing club at NC State University (www.ncsailing.org)
I'm 17 and race an H16 on Long Island Sound. I think this is a great Idea because there doesn't seem to be too big of a basis for youth cat sailors.

i'm Andrew and i'm 13, i sail a new cat f1 at weston sailing club in the uk. Sometimes i race on f18s.
I'm Sylvester probably wont qualify as a youth soon...but for now I’m 19 (turning 20 in March). I sailed lasers and 420's for the last 2-3 years just for fun and bought my first Cat this week. A Mystere 5.5 (18') and I am planning to work on it over this winter and start sailing it in the spring. Btw, I’m from Mississauga, Ontario and I sail around southern Ontario, Lake Ontario, Wasaga,....
