Each year Southold Yacht Club hosts a 30 or so mile distance race around Shelter Island. This year I was going to propose to make this a two or three day affair. If we get enough boats, the club will def. support two days. The second day would be either buoy racing or perhaps a distance race to new suffolk and back (maybe around Robins Island). The details need to be worked out. Who would be interested\Any Ideas?

I'm in. We could make day #2 a race from SYC around Robins Island(2X) and back. Buoy racing in Noyack Bay is another option. This is one event that could potentially attract lots of cats. This race has been run nearly 22 years for cats and I think 31 years for the sunfish. Let me know how I could help organize. I am not associated with SYC but would like to help any way I can. That sounds great. I would defintitley go to that. There really doesn't seem to be any large scale cat sailing on long island and this would be a great foothold.

The race is scheduled for saturday august 19th. Normally registration is at 9am with the skippers meeting around 10:30am. The start is around 11. We're working on having a second day of racing on sunday. I'd like to see if we can find a secure place to store the boats overnight so the guys who come from far away don't have to trailer back and forth and do only one set-up and one break-down. I'm open to any ideas you guys may have. Greg

How many catamarans do you expect for this race?

We've had as few as 5 and as many as 20. I've been trying to keep in touch with 12 more cat sailors on L.I. that haven't done the race before. I hope we can get a good turnout. It's a challenging distance race as far as tactics and strategy are concerned. Greg

I'd be interested, but I'm coming from CT so I may see if I can take a ferry ride over with the trailer to Orient Point or Montauk (which ever is closer) but I would need to know that we are going to do a two day event.
If you can put me in contact with some one who knows the area and knows available hotels that have parking room for a trailer that would be great.

Thanks.
-Jeff
