Hi all,

just an idea, but looking at the similarities of the times at the last 2 Nats.. Why do the Mossies have two starts, realy they could race Cat and Sloops off the one start. After all numbers aren't that large. As far as speed differences are concerned the variation is greater within the individual fleets at the moment, than between the fleets. <img src=

You would still have seperate results for Titles, but hopefully bigger fleets would make all better sailors. What do you think? <img src=

Im in for that Idea.
Makes for more interesting sailing having to fight through 30 odd boats rather than 2 x 15 boats,

I don't know that it would be good idea, the cats and sloops are racing for seperate titles, if one was disadvantaged by the other on the start line, it could get ugly. I don't really know of course, is that a justified concern?

Regards

Good idea, I'm surprised it isn't already a combined start. Take a lead from the moths, scows through to foilers, all off the one start. No major problems, even with such different speeds, which the mosquitos wouldn't have.

I would like to be on a cat rig in a combined start, with the sloops generally pointing lower then cat rigs they may have a hard time of it.

Hi all,

I hoped to promote some discussion.

I said nothing about seperate spinnaker start, never crossed my mind <img src=

Regards pointing off the line, I have often been out pointed by Sloop Rigs when sailing cat rig, again I think this varies considerably within the cat/sloop fleets. From what I have heard Darryn you would out point me <img src=

alt=

/>. I thought us heavy weights all sailed low and fast <img src=

/> Must be just me <img src=

/>.

As far as the fleets getting in the way at the start, this is just subject to the rules. Like the rest of the race, the seperate fleets often, more like constantly meet around the course and the racing rules apply. I have sailed behind many a sloop rig on starboard, giving away boat lengths when neck and neck with another cat rig, how is it different at the start?

Regards Gary. <img src=

I would try it for an Invitation Race, make a great fleet photo.

I have been working on the pointing, still a heavyweight but, didn't work on that<img src=
