A few of you know i gave my trailer a spruce up when i bought JUST DO IT 1732
After seeing the boat on the nice looking trailer the misses didn't like the boats color
So here begins the late nights in the shed.
We decided to go all out and not just give it a coat of paint but to give 1732 new EVERYTHING

At this point my old man says if your doing your boat we can do mine at the same time
(SIGH MORE WORK)
Esho Senior has a paper tiger that is 28 years old and i last gave it a respray 10 years ago. His hulls where getting very flimsy at the beams. You pick one hull up and the other would stay on the ground. So we went all out on the papter tiger also.
First off i ground back the hulls where the beams attach to and Epoxy glassed 5 layers of glass to stiffen the hulls where the beams attach, Dad is 63 and doesn't care if his boat is over weight.
Now you pick a hull up and the other follows.
After 10 years of racing his hulls looked very second hand so
I put the old man to work sanding.

His hulls were so bad they needed to be undercoated so they got INTERNATIONAL high build spayed on and left for 48 hours

so while dads boat dried we got started on mine
I stripped all the fittings off and got out the sander and went to work

I sanded it back with 180grit. Much to my delight the hulls were in excellent condition under the exterior.
In some spots i went back to bear timber in the attempt to fair the hulls, so undercoat is needed.

I used the same high build as the paper tiger hulls and was left for 48 hours to cure

We sent the tiger beams off to get powder-coated black at a cost of $50 totalto get the front, rear and center beams it is worth doing. For those in Adelaide i recommend FR Payne and son, they did a brilliant job.

As both boats where left to harden i got going on some of the MOZZIES accessories, the kite pole, tiller extention, boards are also getting a face lift.

I sanded all the bits down and gave them an undercoat, as this was done with a rattle can they didn't need the drying time as the 2pac.
next day BAMMM new looking accessories

" alt="" />

After sanding back both the mozzy and the papertigers undercoat we where ready to to gloss

" alt="" />

Wet down the shed to keep the dust at bay

" alt="" />

the tiger went first as it is going plain gloss white from Internation paints it took about 1L and come up looking brand new.

Mine was next using Sea Horse paint took 2L
We decided to go grey and the end result looks excellent

" alt="" />

As we near the end of the painting the last thing to do was to non skid the tiger.
I had some of my gloss grey left over and added aggregate to it and sprayed 2 stripes between the beams.

" alt="" />

" alt="" />

All that is left to do is put all the new bits back on the boat

I replaced the panic straps with 3mm spectra and trapeze handles (my crew is new so she will be hanging on till she gets her balance)

I replaced the trapeze wires with 3mm Dyneema with a eye spliced in the ends. I have also replace the entire trapeze system new hooks new cleat to make it adjustable. It was just a set height before.

" alt="" />

the righting ropes got replaced to 3mm spectra

new 8mm traveler sheet

new jib blockes (ronstan RF35101) with 3mm dyneema spliced strop
New jid cleats (Ronstan RF46131)

new kite pole support 5mm dyneema with clip sliced on end

all new bearings on all the cleats

New hiking straps made out of fluro Yellow Webbing

new hull covers and kite chute being made by peter dunk

The trailer also got a hair cut. She was way over engineered so we cut off roughly 25kg of steel

" alt="" />

The total cost of the paint was $450 for both boats inc the non skid aggregate

The crew and i are still arguing on a name for the old girl and that is about it

After a lot of hours sanding and filling and near relationship break up due my absence in the house (or it could of been the amount of money being spent, still working that bit out)
Both boats look better than ever
thank to Esho Senior for the help done. I think he liked being on the tools.

feel free to criticize or ask questions on what i have done

ok......

why on earth did you put this shitstuff on <img src="<>/shocked.gif" alt="shocked" title="shocked" height="15" width="15" />

Spent ages ripping it off of Scorpian and I was junking the decks so it only had to be removed from the top edges of the hulls.
It wasn't put back on because it failed to supply any

grip

when its wet (real handy on a boat), it always looked dirty and was surprisingly very HEAVY when we weighed it after removal.

Phill elected to use stick-on grip adheasive which is okish I guess but I'm not a fan

I personally love my TredGrip and wouldn't use anything but..... http://www.aicoatings.com.au/tredgrip/

for perspective the strip is ~40mm wide <img src="<>/wink.gif" alt="wink" title="wink" height="15" width="15" />

The grip is excellent in all conditions including water <img src="<>/eek.gif" alt="eek" title="eek" height="15" width="15" />
Is user friendly whether you sail bare-foot, in sandshoes or wetsuit booties <img src="<>/grin.gif" alt="grin" title="grin" height="15" width="15" />
It doesn't rip the daylights out of bare skin unlike other products do <img src="<>/grin.gif" alt="grin" title="grin" height="15" width="15" /> <img src="<>/grin.gif" alt="grin" title="grin" height="15" width="15" />
Its so easy to remove when doing a repaint and just as easy to re-apply <img src="<>/grin.gif" alt="grin" title="grin" height="15" width="15" /> <img src="<>/grin.gif" alt="grin" title="grin" height="15" width="15" />
&
Can be mixed to any color you'd choose...... including a really bright GREEN <img src="<>/sick.gif" alt="sick" title="sick" height="15" width="15" />

Hay Pirate
Yea i knew it would be a bit slippy so i sprinkled the same non skid aggregate i used in the paint for the tiger over the wet paint after we had sprayed, as it is in the 2pac paint it will last years
I did want to remove the tread that was on the boat already but that is a massive job and would of added days. it isn't too rough to take skin off but it is now pretty aggressive
I did want to gloss the deck and just have the strip on the outside edge but would of taken too long in the end.

It got the better of me so i painted the tramp track just to make it look nicer

<img src="[Linked Image]" />

My boat covers arrived today they look amizing Thanks Peter Dunk for the good job
He also made a kite pole cover

<img src="[Linked Image]" />

My new hiking straps also arrived today
The boat is looking real good

Next up is the rudder stocks and cross bar are getting powder-coated.

The Grey 2 pack has been on for 5 days now and will be hard enough to put on the trailer Saturday and get it rigged up so i can replace all the rigging.

We are very happy on how the boat is coming along
Not much left to do
I an counting on the misses not liking the sails that come with the boat that are 4 years old so i have the permission to get all new ones
Fingers crossed
I have seen them up before and they are in not bad shape, they are just going to look out of place as the kite is blue and pink and the main is brown

We will see them up for the first time Saturday with the new looking boat

Hi Esho, I can't believe you are asking permission to buy new sails, need and want, there is a difference. Saw the grey on the boat, and said

why ', saw the yellow on the boards, and said

really", now I see them both together, wow. Looks fantastic. The two colors really work well together. Keep up the good work.
