Dave,
Does this mean you have a boat to put a trailer? My opinion, no one builds the best trailer, sort of like boats. Popular opinion I think puts trailex at or near the top. I am partial to steel, that way I can wield, drill holes and modify all I want with little worry to structure. There is another recent string regarding this very subject.

Im building a trailer because I feel I can build a better one than I can buy for less money. NO -- No boat yet just wishfull thinking. I can always sell this trailer. Im looking for someone who has built one to respond. There was a lot of talk but no response to my post. I want aluminum but cant figure out a few details: I-beam or tube? - weld or thru bolt? I would use steel though, just not as heavy as my old one was.

All of the Hobie Tigers and Nacra 6.0s in our Fleet have Trailex trailers. They're easy to customize and move around.

I have built an all aluminum trailer for my Tornado...it's a tilt trailer 'cuz of the 10' beam, but the basic trailer frame construction method could be used for any boat. The frame is 2x3x1/8" T6061 Alloy with a tongue beam of 3x3x1/8"...all bolted together...no welding (which will destroy the temper of the alloy). I used a light duty (~1000lbs rating) Torflex axle (no springs to rust!). Whole trailer weighs under 400 lbs, so with the boat & wooden storage box, the total weight is easily less than 900 lbs.

We plan to offer all the brackets and plans as a kit, with the alloy sourced locally to save shipping costs.

Here is a link to the prototype I made:
