Where to get a tiller exension
Ronstan Battle
stick - http:/
Or for a few more $$$$ Carbon Kevlar from Composite Spars and Tubes.

Paul,
The Ronstan telescopic tiller extension is great until you bend it a few times or once badly. I have given up on the expense and gone to an aircraft grade aluminium alloy which is both light weight and very strong. It's a whole lot better than the spagetti from Bunnings and comes in 5m lengths so you can pretty much cut it in half and have a spare as backup. I'll try to get more detail on the supplier.

Peter

Paul,
We have been using CST (Composite Spars and Tube, Sydney)tillers now for about 4 years with only one minor lot of damaged which was
self inflicted
and not the fault of the tiller. This was repaired simply with some carbon and resin.
I have found it light, strong very stiff and most of all comfortable to use and to date have fitted one to another boat, other than our own (2 of).
Expense????...all relative I guess but they run about the $230 mark and we are using the longest one they make...actually for the A class.
There's my choice for what it is worth.
I found a really good section of light walled, larger diameter aluminium at bunnings recently (I think 20-25mm OD, 1-1.5mm wall. Was surprised to see it at bunnings actually, didn't really appear sturdy enough for home handy-man style work)...it is currently working brilliantly as the tie-bar between teh tillers. It could be good for an extension...?

Paul,
I haven't forgotten your request. It's just taken more time than I thought to get the source details. My contact informs me that it is 25 mm dia. high tensile drawn alloy mill finish. It's something you don't usually find at Bunnings but hey, they could have got a special order from somewhere and had surplus they wanted to unload.
I'll keep perservering.
Regards,
Peter

I've been using the Bunnings aluminium tube for a while as I have a habit of falling on top of the tiller extensions. I also wrap plaster jointing tape near the end and then the wide PVC tape over that for better grip. I seal the ends with some epoxy filler so it floats.
