Insurance for fleets/clubs and Classes.
Hobie Class officers are insured down to the Divisional level for on the water activities.
Eg Nationals. You write your check to the Hobie class association.

BUT If you write a check at the regatta to some one else… eg Hobie Fleet 54.. Those officers, volunteers etc are not covered on the water.. They need their own on the water policy for the volunteers and officers.

EG Laser Fleet in Newport. Based in three yacht clubs and Ft Adams park. Even though each yacht club provides a RC … the officers needed a policy for the fleet officers, volunteers and their beach activities at the State Park..

BUT…
Most of the liability for injuries to your RC volunteers occurs on land or while launching which is not covered by regatta liability.

If you put out the keg and don’t charge for it… you can be held liable for kids drinking it and intoxicated people.

The people who loan you power boats to run your event will have to use their own insurance if you don’t purchase coverage for borrowed boats..

So… your fleet’s bill will be 100 to US Sailing for dues… and 850 plus extra’s to make sure that your volunteers are taken care of.

The regatta liability waiver is a HURDLE.. it attempts to ward off frivolous lawsuits but if the XXX hit the fan… its just a speed bump to court.
