[Solved] Rigger for beachcat, East Coast, USA
Have a Tornado with a carbon mast in parts and need to get the mast up this summer. Anybody to recommend helping figure this out on upper east coast? It's a hyrbrid boat (older hulls, newer CF mast) so I don't want to attempt by myself and have it go wrong.Â
thanksÂ
A Tornado is just like any other cat, just a little bigger, but the mast should be pretty easy compared to an aluminum mast of the same length.... We just put up our Mystere 6.0's mast the other day for the first time.... same mast as the pre-2004 Tornado masts....31.5' heavier aluminum mast. My wife helped pull on the forestay with a rope extension as I lifted the mast starting from the rear beam to the front beam of the boat... with the old ratty tramp off the boat. Not the easiest thing, but it was very successful without any problems. Your carbon mast should be a cinch in comparison.
The main thing that you want to be sure of is that the forestay rigging is laying on top of the mast's diamond-stays and spreaders, and the shrouds and trapeze lines are laying on top of the hulls (free and clear of catching anything) before raising the mast. Also, ensure that the mast base and mast step ball are well-secured together. Have your friend or wife help with pulling on the forestay with a rope extension. I set the masthead on an 8' tall folding A-ladder to begin with to aid in the initial lift.
This was with the boat on the grass, not on the trailer.
If this mast has the mast base pivot pin on the leading edge of the mast like many of the F18's do, then it's best to look up the raising directions from, say, the Goodall/AHPC C2/Akurra F18 instruction manual or others.
Not sure exactly what you mean when you say the mast in "in parts". Do you just mean that none of the lines are attached (hence the need for a rigger) or is there something more going on?
Is it that you need help figuring out how long the shrouds, stay, and diamond wires should be? If so, then I expect it would require someone showing up on-site which means more than just "East Coast" you would have to specify county and state.
Thanks for the replies. The mast has no lines connected to it and I'm not sure I have the right ones for this mast and the mast has never been put on this boat, it just came with it. I have some lines but they are probably for the old, aluminum mast. In addition I'm having to make a custom mast step for the mast so the height might not be exactly as originally intended.
I can trailer the boat anywhere on the upper east coast and as I'm in upstate NY I suspect there won't be anybody local. But if so: around Kingston, NY.Â
