Threads by Suggestion: Memberships and Dues
Rick, The news letter is the Voice of the Association. As you noted, without good communication the Association will die. Suggest we take Mary's offer to raise the price of Catamaran Sailor by $ 5.00 and make all subscribers NAMSA members. For the past two years, we have given a copy of Catamaran Sailor to all entrants in the races we sponsor. This free service Mary has provided has spread the word, and helped build interest in all types of Cat Sailing. Tami has suggested an Email publication, but this does have some draw backs. Not everyone has moved into cyberspace. Also, many people do not want to download large attachments. Updates on this site is also an option, but I feel many still like to have a magazine. It is easier to read and share with other saiors we are trying to reach. The price also makes it very affordable to everyone. For the people that wish to be Individual Members, not members of NAHCA, or similar Sailing Associations, should have dues set at
$ 25.00. For this fee, they should receive a membership card, with their name and number. This would identify them when entering NAMSA Events. The Association members should also receive a card, of perhaps show their copy of Catamaran Sailor, which will have their name, address, and expiration date, in additon to their Sailing Association card when entering NAMSA Events.

Section 3.b.ii:
ii. Only NAMSA members shall be entitled to compete in class-sanctioned events
Perhaps I have interpreted this incorrectly - but I really feel like we should allow anybody to participate in a NAMSA event. If they are not a NAMSA member then their entry fee should be higher by $5.00 (as NAHCA does). I think that it's vital to the promotion of NAMSA and cat sailing that we maintain an atmosphere of openess on all fronts.
Jake, I agree with this option. We have used the option of adding $ 5.00 for nonmembers to the entry fee, or discount for members. This works well for new sailors interesting in trying out racing but not ready to join. Usually they will join after a couple of regattas. Caleb
What will they "get" for their $5.00? Lots of regattas offer "discounts" if you are a member of USSA for instance and it is usually explained to me this is because USSA covers the insurance, or rules, or some such- I suppose if it is a "class-sanctioned event" NAMSA is providing something for the event? What do we propose this "something" is (other than sanction)?
