Coconut Grove Sails and Canvas A-Cat Racing

Location: Islander Resort, Mile Marker 82.1, US-1, Florida Keys, USA
Dates: 13 - 17 January 2014; A limited practice day: Sunday, 12 January 2012 will be provided.
1. The organizing authority for these events is Coconut Grove Sails and Canvas inc.
2. Events: This will be two (2), two (2) day events of A-Cat racing:
a. The Coconut Grove Sails & Canvas Invitational; 13 & 14 January 2014.
b. The Coconut Grove Sails & Canvas Intergalactica; 16 & 17 January 2014.
c. Wednesday January 15th will be an alternative date in case of weather issues, or a rest day as conditions dictate. Decision at the discretion of the PRO.
d. Scoring will be separate for each of the two racing events.
3. Fleet division: ( New changes for these Races only ! )
All registered boats will be divided into two Fleets, the “A Cat Classics” and the “A Cat”. All boats will race together at the same time, in the same race. The “A Cat Classics” Fleet will race a maximum of three races per day. The “A Cat Classics” fleet will race under a change to A Cat Championship rules, by modifying the high wind limit, racing to an average wind of 18 Knots or below. Winds shall be measured in accordance with the Championship rules. The “A Cat” fleet may race more races each day, at the discretion of the PRO. The “A Cat Classics” will have an identifying Colored Spot provided by race management for attachment approximately 6 six inches from each, the leach and foot of the sail, near the clew, on both sides of the sail. All sailors will designate the specific fleet for racing at final registration when their registration form is signed on site. Boats which are 10 years old or older should/may register in the “A Cat Classics” Fleet. However, any sailor may register in the fleet of their choice. Once registered no changes between fleets shall be allowed. All registrations shall be for both the Invitational and the Intergalactica. Scoring will be accomplished separately for each fleet. Trophies will be provided for each Fleet.
4. Rules:
a. The regatta will be governed by the Rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing, issued for 2013 and beyond.
b. No national prescriptions shall apply.
5. Eligibility and Entry
a. The regatta is open to all members of the International A-Class Catamaran Association (IACA) and to their respective national associations.
b. Boats may pay and pre-register to enter by going to the internet address: http://www.usaca.info/ and follow link to calendar, then to events.
c. Pre-registration and entry fees will be accepted at any time now, at the OA, on line or at the Registration Table located in John Schiefer’s room after noon on Saturday 11 January 2012. A copy of the registration form is included below. A signed registration form is required before racing.
6. Registration fee is $150 per boat, inclusive for all activities and events.
7. No pre-qualifications are required. All entrants should be aware that these races are oceanside, within sight of land, inside the major reef, but likely more than one mile from shore. All competitors will be required to wear approved life preservers at all times while on board and certify at registration, that they are completely capable of righting their boat without assistance in moderate seas. Communication using a cell phone or VHF radio is allowed for emergency calls only.
8. No inspections are anticipated.
9. Schedule:
a. January 12, practice day: No signal will be flown before 12:00PM. Two races will be attempted.
b. The first signal for all days of racing, 13 through 17January will be at 12:00 noon. Three or more races will be planned for race days.
10. Course to be raced: All races will be windward-leeward, twice around, with a gate for first time around. The course will be adjusted for wind conditions to make races 45 – 60 minutes in length.
