A 30 mile catamaran sprint down the Intracoastal waterway to the quaint, old Florida town of Sebastian and Capt. Hirams for the first party. Spend the night and enjoy Capt. Hirams or any of the other cozy watering holes. Return the next day with another 30 mile sprint to Performance Sail and Sport for the 2nd leg and overall trophy presentation and party.

Hirams Haul
Notice of Racing
Performance Sail and Sport will continue its 11 year history of a two day, round trip, race from its location in Melbourne Florida, just north of Pineda Causeway, on the west side of the Indian River, proceeding south for 30 miles to the park one mile south of Captain's Hiram's in Sebastian, Florida, and returning the following day. Hiram's Haul is for all classes of beach type catamarans up to 22 feet in length. All entries will be raced using one open class and using Portsmouth numbers for handicapping. The race will commence on Saturday October 31st, 2009 and return on Sunday November 1st. The Organizing Authority (OA) is Performance Sail and Sport Inc. (host organization).
The race will be governed by the rules found in the Racing Rules of Sailing, unless modified as authorized by this NOR and/or the Sailing Instructions (SI). The SI will be published and available at the host organization one month before racing, or otherwise at registration the morning of the race. The skippers meeting will be held in the park south of Performance Sail and Sport at 10:00AM , October 31st, 2009.
The following RRS are modified:
Rule 44.1 Taking a penalty, is modified to require boats to complete only one penalty turn in the event of breaking a rule of RRS, part 2. The remainder of this rule remains.
Rule 80 Advertising, advertising is not restricted on boats or crew, except by good taste.
Rule 26 Starting Races, is modified as the warning flag will be a large red flag in lieu of a class flag.
Rule 41 Outside help, is modified for safety reasons as follows: Assistance is encouraged for any boat or crew perceived to be in any danger. Any boat receiving assistance will be penalized 20 minutes and the assisting racing boat will receive credit for anytime used assisting another boat. Further definition will be in the SI.
The warning flag will be no earlier than 10.55AM EDT, October 31st, 2009. The start will be in the water as near to shore as possible, off the beach behind the host building and by the park, south of the host organization.
Entry will be completed by submission of an entry form, signed by skipper and crew, and payment of entry fee. Early registration is encouraged and maybe accomplished by picking up an entry form at the host organization or email completed form below. Entry fee may be paid on the day of racing. Registration may take place any time by email, in person, or by mail at Performance sail and Sport inc., 6055 N US 1, Melbourne, FL 32940, phone number: 321 253 3737.
Early hotel arrangements are encouraged at Captain Hiram's Key West Motel at (772- 589-4345). Rates are protected for the first 15 registrants before October 16th, 2009. There is also a CandleWood Suites (321-821-9009) walking distance to Performance Sail with special rates for the event. A Best Western Motel is at the end of the causeway on A1A. There are a few other hotels, and even one or two B & B's but race competitors and/or associates are own their own. Rates have been protected with limited rooms at CandleWood Suites and Captain Hiram's.

There has been a change to the NOR. Two Starts will be utilized. All non-spinnaker boats will start at 10:30AM and spinnaker boats will start at 11:30AM. This note will be posted in the general forum also.
