new old shark
Hi I was wondering if there are any plans out there for these sharks. I am trying to rebuild one. My friend bought a shark that seemed to be in good shape. However much to our surprise the shark literally stared to come apart while we where sailing it on Lake Michigan. We took on so much water and nearly lost the rig. Also the plywood decking stared to crack. We somehow made it back. Now the plane is to restore it to seaworthy shape. Any help or advice would be helpful.
I am from Chicago. I know that the deck will need to be redone. As I said, pieces of wood where braking off as we hit the waves. We where moving very fast. I know for sure we will need to re do the deck, the dagger boards and some how seal the hulls. Any problems we should be looking for in an old shark?
Thank you Rob.
As long as the main and rear beams are good, the rest is easily dealt with. If there is floatation foam in the hulls it is probably waterlogged and adding a lot of weight.
A spar can be placed across the bridle mounts if there is a lot of flex in the hulls.
