Tuning question:

Ok. in the tuning guide it says to set your diamond tension to certain numbers, but my Loose gauge doesn't even go that high.. Yes I have the fancy one with the 2 rollers.

A question to sailors of the new US F17 rig.

There is alot of circumstancial evidence that the new US F17 alu rig has a sail of the same total area as the older carbon I-17R rig. But I just want to be absolutely sure about this. Can anybody confirm this ? Or confirm that the US F17 rig is about 165 sq.ft ?

As you all know I like to keep my facts straight.

Thanks,

Wouter

Wouter,
Contact Nacra Europe. The file came from there.

Thanks for the reply Bob, but I'm sorry to have to say here on the

17 foot singlehanders

forum that that company is not dependable with respect to answering such questions.

Basically, I know enough when anybody can confirm the new alu mainsail to be of the same size as the old I-17R mainsail (carbon mast). Texel officials have officially measured the I-17R version and have found its mainsail to be 16.44 sq. mtr. by 8.53 mtr.

The EU F17 version can never have that amount of mainsail area and be F104 compliant. Also the specs have been

unofficially declared to be

: 15.34 sq. mtr by 8.69 mtr.

(second source : http://www.nacraeurope.com/product.php?product_id=14&name=F17+One-up)

With a difference of this magnitude (12 sq. ft.) it will be easy for any US sailor of the new rig to spot the difference in mainsail area. Especially when both are layed on top of eachother.

Hi Bob
The F17 Class would like to thank you for all your work, with Peter Vink & Skip Elloitt, getting the new Aluminum rig up to par with the carbon rig. Also for Bill Gillespie & Mark Batchelor ( the carbon guys) for making the trips to Florida for the rig to rig testing.
Again Thanks!

N/C,
It was a long haul (6 months) on all those cold days getting out on the boat and sailing around! And I think the end result is something the new sailors to the class will completely enjoy. I have to thank the guys over in Panama City, FL for coming out and being my test team (Nacra20s, Infusion). The F17 is now a formidible opponent on the open race course! <img src=

Thanks,
