I got my FXone towards the end of last season. Spent the remainder of last year pretty timid and scared of the chute. This year I'm starting to get much more confident, and I'm starting to squeaze some speed downwind.

When a gust hits, I've been waiting for the hull to lift then bearing off while sheating in a bit as the boat accelerates. Trying to keep it balanced with a hull flying. Is it correct to be sheating in as the boat gets up to speed? It seems to be working, but is it all in my head?

I've been flying a hull fairly high. (Windward rudder almost clear of the water) There seems to be a sweet spot where things are much better behaved, and it isn't quite as

jumpy

so to speak. Is this correct form? or should I be running with it lower? It seems to be going really low really fast.

Any and all advice or advanced tips would be appreciated.

Karl,
You pretty much have the right technique. The only thing I do differently is not pull in the chute when the hull raises and I'm bearing off. If you pull it in, you have to release a lot of sheet and carve a bigger line to re-attach the flow on the chute and main. All this rudder movement slows you down. I know you have to wiggle the tiller a little, just try to minimize the movement.

Try it, you'll like it!
