[#23001]

Looking forward to the next F 17 Gold Cup Event #3. So far this season the fleet has received $350 in prize money....does it get any better than this?

I see its $70 for camping on site. Is there a Walmart nearby? (to answer my own question I checked the Walmart site....yes there is) Anybody want to camp there with me?

Who is planning on coming? Is 10 F 17's gonna happen?

Mark Biggers, you gonna make a regatta this season......hmmm.
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

Bill W. is this your season debut?

Tim H. is all the graduation stuff out of the way?

Mike T. this is kinda in your back yard.

Andy Z. get that boat wet.

Harold B. lets get it started.

Wiz you got a SW or another carbon?

Jim Y. are you in the neighborhood?

Any of the guys who bought new F 17's gonna race that thang?

Once again prize money available for the gas hogs....I'm feelin lucky.

I will bring a heavy duty auger this time. (It always blows at a CRAM regatta)

I will be on vacation the week before the event so I would like to get there early and play..anybody else?

Where do you get the small ropes to help tie down the snuffer pole? And to lift up the snuffer pole?

Eric,

Who have you heard from? Do we have ten yet? One more question. How's your boom?

Don't know if we will get out ten. Very few respond to postings or emails. Busy...busy I guess.

The SW boom is my new secret weapon. The new hot must have item to go along with the SW mast. Gotta go with the curved boom. It makes the leach more adjustable...yeah that's it. Maybe you can take a picture of it an post it with the results of Stray Cat. Its a $25 gotta have option. Heck I'd volunteer to bend anybodies new 2008 boom if they wanted it.

Looks like another weekend to check your tiedowns! Y'all be careful.

Bob

Eric's reply:

Well Bob, you were close.

On Saturday we saw a dark wall of clouds coming at us and for those of us who were at North Cape a few weeks ago it looked like Dejavu. I was one of the first to chicken out and head to the beach. And of course there was no squall. Just lots of rain mabe 1/2 to 1 inches in about an hour. One intrepid F 17 stayed out with the Hobie Waves (Bill Westrick) and reported the sailing was fine just lots of rain. So the rest of us were watching the TV weather pictures and were seeing red and yellow areas approaching and we stalled getting back out. The Waves kept sailing their hearts out. Finally the F 17's began to leave the beach. I missed the second start by about 4 minutes so I started and dropped out. To save my engery (yea thats it). We got four races in after we got back out. The winds were good I would guess 10-14 hard to tell.

Bill G was sailing well so was Mike T and Mike W and Bill W and Roger. This was a strange regatta, lots of DNS and DNF finishes.

Sunday the winds were forecast 10-20 and they were all of that. We started at 9AM. Yikes I was going to a resteraunt for breakfast and for some reason decided to check the sailing instructions. Whoops...no time for breakfast.

The hard luck story for the day had to be Mark Bachelor. He was one of the first to leave the beach and sailed downwind to the start area about 2 miles away. Got there went out on the wire and discovered he forgot his trap harness. Had to sail back in and missed the start by about 4 minutes.

I had a lot of fun this weekend. On Saturday I capsized and could not right the boat. To tired from all the sailing. It got worse, I was to tired to get into the boat. That was terrifying. Had to get on a motor boat and pull the boat to us to get back on. More fun, on the second race on Sunday the outhaul on the boom broke. Took so long to jury rig I again dropped out. Then the final kicker was on the next race going into C mark for the last time I douced the shute and put a 7 ft tear in it.....Not a good outing.

I have a new found respect for Roger who knows he cannot right the boat and still goes out in the heavy stuff, hats off to you Roger.

The sailing was the best the F 17's have had all season. Nine races and off the water before noon on Sunday. Nice YC. Good grounds, nice clubhouse and bar. The Saturday meal was great. The pool with a one and three meter diving board was great. The RC was very professional. At the awards they all dressed up in their dress white uniforms. I would recommend we go back again.

The F 17's had 12 boats registered and 11 sailed. None of the 11 racers finshed all 9 races.

Chris B didn't wait for the weather to clear on Saturday he and his future bride took off on the jet cat to Put In Bay....what happens in Put In Bay Stays in Put In Bay....eh?

We had one race where I believe the top four finishers were all over early. Lots of unusual stuff this weekend.
