With one week until the Barton, Dunedin Causeway is coming into its BEST season. The summer light air and lightning season is over and now steady air with warm conditions prevails. Yesterday was perfect as Dave shows in his "MX'n in the Gulf " thread. It just doesn’t get any better than yesterday. I sailed out the pass early and beat north around Three Rooker Bar (one leg of a typical Barton course) The wind just kept mounting on the sleigh ride south until it was a steady 15-18. As I got close to home I saw a fleet of boats cranking out the pass and I finally crossed their path 3-4 miles out. With the camera rolling, we all put on our best hull-flying act. What a show to see our mixed fleet whooping it up and flying high. Over the next hour the fleet included P19MX, Mystere 6.0, Nacra 6.0,Dart 20, G-Cat 5.7, H16, Tornado, and my Mystere 5.0XL. Yesterday it included a Taipan 4.9 and Smitty's new I-20 to name but a few. Next week you will see all of these plus A's, Supercats, Dart 18, Nacras of all sizes, Traks, Dingos, and Venture Cat. We are the Noah's ark of sailing beaches (2 of every boat).
The Barton is Portsmouth at it's BEST! Lots of boats, a challenging distance course, friendly people, warm water, plus a great RC and good food. With any luck we'll have wind like yesterday to raise your blood pressure a bit.
See you Sunday. Start is at 11.
