f you put significant down haul on your sail you may find that a normal spur grommet won't hold up for long. My preference would be a riveted plate or a reinforced heavy duty steel grommet that a sailmaker can put in.
I used two 2" by 1/8" thick tsteel washers, drilled holes and rivited both together over hole that was left. It was really tricky getting it together to rivet. I had to use some welding plyers / vice grips to hold it tight to compress everything so that the rivets would set properly. A temporary patch till sail is retired.
