How do you reef the Nacra 500 school cat? The sail has reeling points but no cleat to reef down the Hayward line. The sail uses a ring at the top of the mast to secure the sail.

Hi Dogger,
You would add an extension to the main halyard ring with rope down to the head of the sail.
Do you have a Nacra 500 already?

If I decided to reef while sailing I would need to drop the main and add an extension to the head and the ring, raise the sail? Yes, I bought a used nacra 500 school model.. I am recreational sailor and will do about 50 percent solo sailing. Years ago I use to sail Hobie 18s and 16s.

dogger54, first Welcome to TheBeachcats.com!

The Nacra 500 School is advertised as having reefing as a standard feature but I can't locate a manual that show it. Todd, do you have access to such a manual?

Also meant to mention that most all beachcat reefing I've seen is designed to be done on the beach BEFORE sailing, not while on the water when the wind comes up like on a big boat.
