[#1849]

Our new Nacra 6.0 came with a spin pole and a huuuge sail... The system seems ok, even though there is no snuffer but a bag which is secured from the trampoline..... I've been looking for some spinnaker furling systems and they look very practical and efficient... Can I use the same sail on the furling system ? What's the catch ? Is it performance when compared to snuffer ? I'll probably do some races but the purpose is mostly recreational.
I would love to see pictures of your system... Thks

Is your huuuge sail a spinnaker or hooter. Spinnaker sail material is very light weight and a hooter sail is much heavier. It sounds like you have a spinnaker with a deck launch system. You can convert it to a snuffer system. You will need a snuffer hoop, sock, and extra retrevial patches sewn on the sail to be able to retrieve it into the sock. If the sail was a hooter you could use a roller furler system. If just recreational sailing, the deck launch will work fine and also for long distance races. Going around the bouys is another story, you would want a snuffer system for that type of racing.

You can't really furl a spin, there is just to much material all over the place. You would foul it up everywhere.
other types of sails have less belly and material and are more jib shaped and can furl (reacher/screecher/code0, etc)

Thanks MN3 and Hullflyer.
It looks like we are going to go with the "snuffer" idea.... I'll see if I can find home made alternatives... Suggestions are welcome ! Thks a lot!!!

I have a mid-pole snu snuffer ring and a modified sock. It's too long for my hobie 16. I'd be willing to sell or trade the ring and sock for an end-pole system. PICS available to anyone interested.

Anyone that reads this I am looking for a snuffer system for a H21SE so it needs to be on the larger end. Either end pole or midpole I am interested.

Hello Hullflyer, you are right... it's a spinnaker and I'm considering the conversion to a snuffer system... Do you have any available. I bought a harken roller system from you about a year ago and I know you have lots of connections... 🙂
Pls let me know. Thks
