Nacra F18 Jib Halyard Line recommendations
I use dyneema or spectra on my Viper, can't remember which.
On the NACRA 500 I used to have, I broke mine a couple times as well. Someone suggested that I put the main up and sheet it in tight before tensioning the jib. Mine seemed to pop when I was going up wind and sheeting in hard.

Spectra is a brand name for dyneema... basically the same thing except "dyneema" can have different coatings added by the manufacturer / distributor
It is a high modulus line that is very strong but not great with abrasion
Robline dinghy control line is a dyneema core and poly jacket (to resist abrasion)... i love it and use it in lots of "controls" on my cat
I bought a full spool of Spyder Line,(New England, Dyneema Sk-75 core, double braid cover). I use it for jib halyard, & trap lines. Easy to knot, easy on the hands, seems pretty tough in the clam cleat, & fairly inexpensive by the spool. Just figure out if a spool will give you what you need, without ending up wasting 10'
I'm not very knowledgeable on what materials one should use for the halyard but I did recently ordered a new one from http://www.saltydogmarine.com/ and found that their price was about half ($40) what everybody else was asking (Murrays or local sail maker). I ordered it together with some other spare parts and am quite happy with it, they shipped it within a day. Again, I'm not an expert but this one looks exactly like the "steel cable" I used to have :-).
