Hey folks: new to posting on this forum but have been reading for weeks. This site has helped me a bunch. For instance: barkeepers helper is the bomb! So here's my question for tonight...whats with the TWO forestay lines coming off the hound, and what is the giant SS pinky ring for? I Have this fantastic boat that I'm going to mast tomorrow, and I just dicovered this odd dual line where the forestay should connect. Could anyone help an old NACRA sailor?

The jib halyard runs through the ring and hooks to it.

Prindle 15, 16 and 18 Manual

Picture

Prindle 16 and 18: Attach the forestay to
the long pigtail (30?) with a 1/4? shackle.
The ring must face towards the mast.
The jib halyard with the
brummel hooks connected
together is lead
up through the ring,
through the short pigtail
thimble and back down
through the ring. Tie
both ends loosely near
the base of the mast.

It looks like I could hoist an engine block with this setup. All that hardware for a jib?
