My prindle has a 7 hole chain plate attached to the bridles,does this chain plate come off or does the furler attach to the top of it? Also does the jib halyard still pass thru the upper ring of the new pigtail?..at burt lake mi right now attempting to switch over to the roller.got a new jib from Randy Smyth ready to go on.Jib was in my house and the house burned down.It survived but smells & got some smoke stains..trying to relax up here before going back to reality
Not sure what you have going on over there but this is a typical setup for a hobie style furler (with a chain plate that goes through the furler)
First of all you will have to shorten the forestay to accommodate the roller fitting at the top of the forestay and the roller furler at the bottom.
The jib halyard must still go inside the zipper luff
what brand of furler do you have?
The Hobie system,(shown by MN3 above), s very easy to adjust for length,(mast rake), BUT, the chainplate shown must be the Hobie part, it is a single strip of SS that passes through the center of the drum. A normal 2 strip chainplate doesn't work well. It goes through only one way, & you can only use 1 or possibly 2 of the holes to adjust mast rake. If you leave the CP below the drum, you cannot change mast rake.
If you are using a Harken Small Boat Furler, you cannot pass a CP through. Ditto for the furlers used on Mystere boats.
You may or may not have to shorten the forestay. I did on the 5.7. The drum/swivel adds about 5", but removing the chainplate evened things out, & we rake the 5.0 mast quite a bit. If you are happy with not being able to adjust the mast rake, you may be able to lose the CP, & just add the furler.

I picked up a used Hobie roller furler and swivle. I contacted Murrays.com and told them I wanted to add the Hobie fuler to my P18. They made me new bridle wires with aircraft swage forks on one end and thimbles on the other and sold me a shortened upper forestay pigtail and ring. They were easy to work with.
Check this image the 7 hole chain plate attaches to the top of the furler.
A little confusing since there is no furler in the image and that is not the same type of chain plate that goes into the h18 style furler

You shouldn't have a chain plate for your forestay to bridal attachment there should be a shackle attaching the two bridal wire to the forestay .... take a look at page 16 lower left of the Prindle manual
I know two people with P18-2s. They both have the same looking roller furler. Both have chain plates. I just thought all P18-2s and P19s had roller furlers. We are always learning.

okay guys thanks for all the responses I put the shortened Murray's pigtail on .the rolling furler attached to the bridles.the rest was same as.the murrays upr forestay is 4 inches shorter.should be good now.
I'll post on my success tonite!
