[#6405]

I have a set of wings for a Prindle 18 with the beam inserts
I am going to post them on this site for sale
My question is will they also fit a Prindle 18/2
There are no P 18/2 for me to take a measurement in the area
The distance between the beams is what I would need to know if they are the same
Thanks for ant replys

I would think not, Flyer. I sail both boats and know the booms are different lengths.

Wish I could get a set for my P18, out here on the rock.

Tell me more...

The wings are located in South Florida Should have pictures up today
I thought because both boats are the same length that maybe the distance between the beams may be the same

The wings will fit any prindle smaller than the one they were meant for you just have to cut down the cross pipes and rerivit. The beam inserts have likely been cut down to fit the d shaped prindle beams and resew the tramps. They can also be made to fit a nacra by attaching wooden shims to the plugs with 3M 5200. Its what I did fo my Nacra 5.2 when I took a set of wings from a P 18-2.

Wolfman, who made those wings you got from an 18-2?

They were the Nacra wings they manufactured for 2 years in the 90s. Vulcanized rubber beam plugs and a welded aluminum frame. Very simple system that doesn’t fold so has to be removed to trailer.

Honestly someone good with a mug welder could make the frames and the beam plugs could be made by stacking layers of Douglas fir or made from a solid piece of you have a lathe. If someone wants I can Measure and sketch them in the spring once everything thaws up here.

You wouldn't happen to have a photo of them posted somewhere?

Wish I had the bucks I'd love some for my P18.

I would go for it - if not for the shipping.

Elias, I measured our boats. The 18-2 is 4-5" wider on center between the beams. The inserts may or may not fit the same as well.

I don't have a photo handy but they look exactly the same as the ones for sale. The inserts are custom for the Prindle cross beams. Should fit them all. Again they can be shaved or shimmed to work, I've done it. $600 is a SMOKING deal for those. I paid double that. THe cross bars are just rivetted so you can cut them down to shorten or buy new pipes to make them longer.

Nohuhu is correct in the distance between beams is 4-5" wider (longer).
I did a quick measurement Saturday between my P18 and the P18-2 that sits next to mine. I came up with about 4" difference.
The inserts for the wings will fit both. You will need to drill a new hole in the cross beams, insert and wing so you can pin them in place.
