years ago i sailed a h16 in the summers, and i recently purchased a very nice 88 h17 and i was wandering the best way to go about getting a jib on front. i checked the catalog but it was expensive

WIND.. LOTS OF WIND~~~ I just had to say that, messin with ya..LOL 😆 I have a 87 17 with a 'super jib' and got lucky ( $ ) when I bought it.... used 'parts & things' for the Hobie 17's are kinda hard to find. I put up a 'wanted' add in here shortly after I got my 17. Turns out the guy didn't live to far from me. A jib ya say HUH!! your gonna need a 'roller drum' and different bridel cables, jib cars w/ traveler, a (I can't think of the name for it), but it's a 'cross bar' that goes between the front hulls

Go with a Harken furler instead of the Hobie furler, you attach the harken furler to the forestay chainplate, you will need a swivel as well as a pigtail.

Check out http://www.thebeachcats.com/index.php?module=pictures&g2_itemId=53447

A simple formula:- furler + jib + swivel + pigtail = length of your current forestay

Ya might be better to get one thats going to fit.. so get one for yer 17... a sport jib, or a 'super' jib... I have a super jib on mine~~~ gives ya a little more horsepower.
Hey Chris, I sent ya a 'private message' did ya get it??

a (I can't think of the name for it), but it's a 'cross bar' that goes between the front hulls

A bridal foil?
(this help manage the inward pull of the jib/forestay) as seen on the nacra's (5.0, 5.2, 5.8, 500, etc)

you will probably have to cut any jib besides one made for a 17.

The H17 mast is a little taller than a H16, the H16 jib would work, it all depends on:-
A) cost factor
B) measurements
