[#17922]

I am sailing a hobie tiger and have seen some clips on the web with guys using a halyard block / jammer on the mast instead of on the crossbeam as is more usual. It looks really quick! On the clip I saw it looks like it is a one line system (pulls tack on aswell). I was wondering if anyone has any pics or explanation of how the halyard is run or has used this and has a view on it.

Using the Halyard block/cleat on the mast works really well. It allows the crew to stand while setting the spin, and speeds up the process. The two in one system pulling the tack out, doesn't work as well. If you need to ease the spin halyard tension it loosens the tack as well.

In that case you are just running the halyard down through a spinlock or similar with a separate tack line jammer on the crossbeam.

At the moment I have a two in one system and if I need to ease some tension (very rarely) it is usually only a small amount. It does not seem to matter too much that this happens both at the tack end as well as the head.

I like to keep things as efficient/simple as possible. Can you do a diagram of how the two in one system works?

The two in one system is basically the same as your current one, but rotated 90 degrees so the

back to back

block that is currently between your cleat on the beam and the end of the prod is now half way up the mast.
