Folks, I need a used F18 midpole snuffer ring and bag so I can finish up installing my chute. I hear some are now using a stainless steel ring. Is the wear on the ring that bad or is this overkill? If you have these items for sale please E-mail me your phone no. and I'll contact you to work out the specifics. TIA

Don't do stainless, too heavy, go for all aluminium rings as sold by AHPC for 250. Works better then all the glass ones and is cheaper as well, Won't wear and is lightweight.

Wouter, weight was my first thought also so it looks like I'll need to go with an aluminium ring. Thanks, Jack

I just wrote to Jill Nickerson about getting an AHPC Taipan/Capricorn mid-pole snuffer ring and sock. She and Robbie Daniel of Fun in the Sun, Clearwater, Florida, are now the North American distributors for AHPC of Australia. She said they will be able to supply them so the US market should soon be flush with that great aluminum snuffer Wouter was talking about. Last September AHPC quoted $360 AUS which is only $270 USD for both ring and sock. This is a great price, considering the huge price for carbon rings. I'm sure there will be shipping costs and some mark up but still, they will be HERE and available....soon? Here's an old photo but I think this is pretty much what they're still using.

I should see Robbie and Jill on the beach tomorrow at Dunedin's Liberty Race along with their new Capricorns. I'll ask for details on when parts will be in their inventory.

Nice ring and sock. I don't think it will work for me though. I'm using a carbon fiber tapered wind surfing mast as a pole. The O.D. at the ring mounting point is about 1.9 inches. I may have to go with a fiberglass ring for modification purposes. I don't expect heavy use here, so if anyone has a used glass ring and bag they would consider selling contact me at JLHILLIARD@msn.com

TIA

It would be very easy to modify that sleeve to fit your pole or any pole for that matter. I use a stock Mystere pole (About 2" dia.) and I plan on getting this set-up from Jill.

Mike,
I assume your talking about splitting the ring sleeve and opening it up a bit to fit over the pole. Guess I could do that if I can't find anything else.

I have a stock Hobie trumpet system for sale, $150 and you pay shipping. It is used, but in good shape. See

I just got my ring and bag for a 2inch pole. The tube that fits over the spin pole is not a closed tube so there is the ability to tweak it to fit. You just can't see it this pic. The bags come in different lenghts.
