iF20 class rules

It would be nice to see them posted. Were they ever finalized?

Finalised? we were racing to them for 5 or 6 years.

NOTE. I am talking about the iF20 rules that were developed to run alongside the F18 rules. F20 is something else that you guys have come up with to encompass existing classes i think.

No current production cat fits these rules as the mainsail size is only 18m2

here is a sumary;

6.12 m max loa
2.6m max beam
platform min weight - 140kg
boat min weight - 190kg
165kg min crew weight [Correctors weights and smaller rigs to compensate for lighter crews]
mainsail - 18m2
jib - 4.85m2
spin - 25m2

the european Inter 20 fitted this rule but has gone to a larger mainsail now, the fox also fitted.

I wouldn't be in favor of reducing sail area on the N20.

The question, I think, is there actually active F20 racing in Europe?

If so, there probably is no reason to adjust the formula to include the US spec I20.

However, it makes sense for the US folks to set the formula box around the I20 and then let the lesser makes upgrade to that spec.

This would be one way to avoid the problems with handicaps in certain races.

No, no racing to iF20 any more.

Folks were asking about the old rules some time ago and I couldn't find them till the other day.

I think they were looking for a starting point to resurect the formula.

For me it would make sense to make the F20 rules the dimensions of the N20 or Tornado considering that they're the only 20' boats with any critical mass and active racing. With the turmoil in the Tornado class and its pseudo-olympic status, I'd say that if the F20 class were to be

revived

then we need to say

ok, F20 == N20 specs

and then choose where we want to maybe make some alterations.

Could the N20's out there go on a diet and lose some weight economically?

No, I don't think so. I would set the min weight at the low end of what I20's run. Perhaps 400lbs. This is a pretty reasonable weight for a boat of that size. I think the all up min weight right now on the N20 is 420lbs.

Can't easily shed weight in hulls, mast, foils without costing people thousands of dollars.

Here is the catch. It would not be that hard to create a one off Infusion that is 20 feet and would measure to the new iF20 rule. Perhaps would be unbeatable by an N20. Now have you helped the class?

Honestly I'm not sure where to go from here with the 20 class. Not enough interest really.

I think there is interest in Europe for a new 20, there are a lo of owners with i20's etc that have had the boats for a a while now and they are to big to sail F18 so a new 20 would be interesting for them.

I think the first step in 'resurrecting' any class or type of boat is to gather all the information on the owners (especially e-mail) so that you can communicate amongst each other and build regatta attendence numbers, fleet size, etc.
