[#20570]

I like the new forum for home built cats and builders .

20 ft is a nice size for one .

This might be a good place to list parts available for 20s or any size or for parts for your rebuild project or those looking for masts -sails -or partsin general for projects though don't overlook the classified here on Catsailor and the store .

I,m looking for an extra I-20 main in good cond .

and also a mast for a Stiletto 23 {for a friend}

Carl,
I'm just curious but if you were going to build a home grown 20 what would your preferred building material be.
Interested,
Phill

Hi Phil

I,m not nearly as talented as you with building , I,ve restored some older wooded boats using west system epoxy and built 2 cats, thanks for asking .

It would be nice to have a class that different materials could be used within with a min boat weight set , like the Tornado that as you know can be folded up with plywd.

I used the stringer frame methos of wood const on one though it had more boxy sections .

What would you like to see Phil .

thanks again .

Carl,
At this stage I don't have a preference.

I'd like to think that I could work towards developing a single set of plans with options in the instructions that will allow people to build in their preferred material from the following selection :-
1) ply/glass
2) foam sandwich (using a combination of glass or carbon and kevlar
3)cedar with glass or carbon.

While you may be able to build to various weights using these different methods the plans should provide specs that will bring all 3 into a weight range difference of no more than a few kilos. I think on a 20ft boat with a spinnaker this should not have a huge impact on performance.

As to my question- I was just curious as to which material you would be most likely to select if you were to build a 20ft cat.

Regards,
Phill

I still have hope for a F 20 class someday, I think it will haveto based on something new in design rather than a 2 ft bigger F-18 and have builders of them , perhaps foiler versions of 20s ie .

also on parts --I have a Trailex trailer for sale, fits a 20, perfect cond . All Alum 1 k . in MI

I,ll list it in the classified this week too.
