[#18952]

I was just given a set of Hobie 16 sails. They are in decent shape, and look pretty close to the Nacra sails.

I was able to lay the jibs out in the living room and realized that the 16 jib could be used on my Nacra, it is fully battened and slightly larger than the Nacra one. Could I use it?
Also ,the main has a longer foot than the Nacra's sails but it is in good shape. The Nacra sails are in really good shape and I might like to save them incase I want to race. Could I use the 16 sails as recreational sails? I see some many boats going boomless now, couldn't I sail with the 16 main boomless?
Sorry I know there are alot of questions in the last paragraph but I am bored and just thinking. So what do you all think, I mean they are free sails, I would like to use them.

If you sail boomless, you'll need to put on a positive rotator. I don't know if the 5.2 has one or uses the typical mast rotation setup.

I'd recommend not using a bigger jib, as it will only make the bows dig in harder and faster. Keep using the nacra sails, as you need to get to know how to trim them correctly.

Put the H16 sails on ebay.

IF you go boomless the foot has to be shorter than the distance between beams or you will need to fit a track on the back portion of the sail
If the luff is longer you can just cut the hobie sail square. This works surprisingly well.
Of course try the jib. What's to be lost?!! If its bows want to stuff leave it out.
Selling the Hobie sails may buy you something you could really do with.
Factory generally knows best. See how they have made the boat better such as downhaul or whatever and pick the performance up by retro fitting.

I will probably sell the Hobie main if I can't get it to work. The Jib looks like it could really add a little sail area. Sailing solo on the Nacra the Bows don't really have much tendency to dive. I think the larger jib will add some sail area and maybe some speed, also it will add some color to my boat, my Nacra is pretty plain (white hulls and sails).
The foot of the main is about 6 inchs to long, looks like I will be selling it on ebay. What is a reasonable price for an average 16 main.

You can check thebeachcats.com there are usually a few sets of H16 for sale on the site. You can also sell them there as the ads are free. Also the H16 jib is much different that the N5.2, one has a zipper luff, and the other has a wire in the luff which needs to be tensioned.

Putting Hobie sails on a NACRA is desecration. It would be like wearing pink, green and orange socks with a white suit. It's just not right. <img src=

I was waiting for someone to say something like that, I think I will be selling them on ebay soon, and then maybe looking for a decent set of nacra sails, or using the money to buy some new stuff for the boat.
