I was wondering if someone can tell me if there is any periodic maintenance that needs to be done on the 'bearings' in beach wheels. Does one wash with soapy water and spray with a lubricant that does not attract dust?

My wheels are getting progressively noisier under the load of the boat -although at the end of the day, after a few beers, it does not seem quite as loud (a bit of sarcasm there).

Thanks

I sprayed mine with some white lithium grease and they have been quiet ever since. I have not inspected them since either so I do not know if sand is sticking to it or not. or what the ecological studies are on lithium grease and the environment. only one point of view.

I took an old inherited set of classic Beachwheels apart to check the bearings (nylon rods) because they were "rumbling" and not pushing well under a bigger cat.
The bearings were rusty brown but looked OK. However, the inner sleeve inside each wheel was rusted all to heck, with big lumps of rust. Curious- a steel tube inside that was originally apparently bonded to the rubber tire! Really.
Well, now its a mess, and the tire leaks too.

Suggestion? Sand, wire brush, paint, add plastic liner?
PS- Like Good Ol' Rick White, I never throw anything away!
