[#12034]

I'm going to build some daggerboards and rudders for my N5.5
What I'm looking for are foil coordinates or dimensions that I can feed into a CNC foam cutting machine. I'd rather lay them up over foam with a cabon spar, vac bag them and be done with them. The other way (moulding and joining halves) is a bit more complex, and not something I have the time to tackle right now. Anyone have a spare or beat up rudder or dagger they want to get rid of?

I'm also going to start moulding spinnaker snuffers soon as well. Paying someone $600 for a 75$ piece of carbon is ridiculous. I know their product is nice, but it just isn't $600 nice. Perhaps if I can make a few nice ones, it might drive the price down a few $$ and allow others to have a very nice mid-pole snuffer.

I'm in the process of making some replacement spars for my boat out of carbon.

I'm not adventurous enough to make foils yet though

When you do take the plunge into makeing a foil, make sure you build it with less strength than the surrounding trunk. I'd rather break a board than a hull

I think for me to make foils for my H17, I'd have to be an expert.

I own a H-20 and could be a possible customer of yours.
Rudders, daggers, tiller, snuffer. If it is affordable, I'm in.

I have some intrest also for my Nacra 18SQ. Really I have thought about making Deeper, slightly more narrow rudders for the SQ meter, maybe even with with Ts on the bottom, like the Stealth. If you consider making some boards, I also would like to know. I do have extra Nacra blades that I could ship you if you need a template.

To answer your original question try www.dreesecode.com

I have used the program SNACK from this company for generating airoil coordinates, it is available as shareware from

http://www.totalshareware.com/asp/detail_view.asp?application=1220

Its pretty good for getting 2D coordinates which I guess is all a CNC foam cutting machine can handle, if it can cut more complex shapes (3D) could you let me know.

Good luck

Gareth

UPDATE

I've got cores being cut on a CNC foam machine this week. He's cut stuff out for me before, and the machine holds a .005 tolerance. REally accurate stuff (he does wing work for sailplane guys)
I should have the cores in my hands later this week. Spar will be harwood with carbon caps, with a kevlar wrapping for burst prevention.
After standing on my stock blades this past weekend, I knew I could make something stiffer.

Just wanted to give you guys an update.

Thanks to Ed Jones for sending me a blade to work with!
