Team Tybee Completes Stellar Year!
Team Tybee sailors John Casey and Kenny Pierce finished third in this years tough Steeplechase Distance Race in Key Largo Florida to win the overall title for the Harken Distance Racing Series. Casey/Pierce won the championship against a fleet of 46 other sailors that have sailed in the year long series.
This win completes a stellar year for Team Tybee who also won the Tybee 500 and the Inter 20 North American Championships. In second place for the year was Matt and Gina McDonald who raced the Blade F16 built by Matts company Vectorworks Marine. In third place was Craig VanEaton, sailing a Supercat and an ARC at different events in the series.
Team Tybee also won the Inter20 class that was broken out separately from the series. Brian Karr finished in second place and Jarad Sonnenklar finished in third.
For 2006, there are some exciting changes in store for the Harken Distance Series. Next year scoring will be done by team instead of by skipper. There is also no longer a requirement to qualify, the top 3 of 6 races will count towards a teams overall score.
