Interested in participating in the Southeast's fastest growing bluewater event of the year? Contact the Charleston to Bermuda Race office at (843) 722-1030 for more information. The C2B Race has been developed to give every sailing enthusiast, from the die hard racer to the family crewed adventurers, a chance to participate in a 777 nautical mile challenge of navigational skill and true bluewater sailing. The race departs Charleston Harbor, Saturday, May 14, 2005 setting sail for the beautiful island of Bermuda. We are a relatively new blue water race, attempting to appeal to a broad scope of vessels. The Charleston to Bermuda Race Committee would like to offer individual fleets for classes entering five boats or more, to include fleet trophies. The C2B Race is a great way for you, your family, and friends to experience the open ocean. Call the race office to find out how to register or visit us at www.charlestontobermuda.org . We don't want anyone to miss this event.

Here are the requirements per the race NOR. We used to have a MacGregor 36, and I can't imagine going to Bimini with it, much less to Bermuda. But it would not have met any of the other requirements, either.

5.1 Yacht Eligibility

5.1.1 Yachts must be single- or multi-hulled sailing vessels with a minimum LOA of 30 feet having inboard auxiliary power, manned by an eligible captain and crew as defined in Section 5.2, and meeting all safety requirements of Section 8.0. The organizing authorities may consider the qualification of a yacht by virtue of its offshore history and/or survey.

5.1.2 Yachts must comply with the requirements of the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Guide for Building and Classing Offshore Racing Yachts if applicable. All yachts with ABS certificates shall submit copies thereof. If there is no ABS certificate, compliance shall be declared in writing by the designer and builder.

Unless they intend to change the wording,"a minimum LOA of 30 feet having inboard auxiliary power, then all the current Corsair 31s and 36s plus others are out of luck.

I'm not even a big fan of inboard power on 30' monohulls. For the amount of run-time most engines on cruising sailboats see, the space is better used as storage.
