H-20 Furler
I recently added a roller furler to my H-20, Hobie says that there are no sail modifications necessary. The problem is that there are 2 small battens in the Jib that make furling very difficult and when it's furled, they flap in the wind strong enough to shake the whole boat. Is there a cure to this problem,(cut out the battens??) or should I just send the furler back to hobie??
Thank you, Michael T

My Nacra 6.0 jib has the same small battens in the leech, and it furls fine. It does put a little more wear on the pockets when it's furled however. If its furled fairly tightly, the batten just makes a wide spot at the point of the forestay.
DO NOT cut out the battens, then your leech will always flutter!
The I-20's have vertical small battens in the leech so that it's a smoother furl, Innovative I think.
If you're furling to the battens and letting them wrap some, then the jib shouldn't flutter.
My 2 cents,

I had a furler on my H20 (added when I bought the boat) The battens didn't pose a problem when furled. The furler really made it nice when beached so the wind didn't try to beat up the jib. I always had a tight rig and the jib stayed put. If your jib is blowing and shaking all over when furled, check the rig it may be too loose.
Just my .02.
