[#17425]

Why is one of my I20 Rudders is not releasing from the locked down position? Did I put it back together incorrectly? Is that possible?

Thanks for the help! By the time you get there tomorrow, maybe your starboard rudder won't release and mine will be magically fixed:)

Well, there's enough NACRA 20s on the lot now, so maybe Jim's rudder won't release whilst both of our magically work!

make sure that the pin with the springs attached to it is well lubricated. If its not, it can stick

Take a good look at the through /pivot bolt and the pins the rollers work on, if it's bent it can do some weird things.I end up replacing mine 1 or 2 a season.

Thank you for your replies. I'll do some lubricating. I just put in new screws because the old ones were bent. When I disassemble the stuck rudder by taking out the screws, the new ones were bent as well just like the old ones. So with the help of your post and my observation, I believe I need to order those black rollers. Sounds like I should get a bunch of them. Are the rollers made of Delrin or something else? I just happen to have a piece of Delrin that might be the right size and could make my own.

Take a look at the casting those rollers hook around. Could be worn in a weird way causing the rollers to stick. It's been a long time since I've looked in there, though...

It could be that your not impacting submerged objects hard enough. If you could just get that pig do go more than 5 knots the rudder might work better when you go aground, again.

Chris9,

I'll have you note that when Trey took Ed here out on our Nacra 20 off of Myrtle beach, he came back grinning like a pyromaniac in a fireworks store 😛

Tad,

He confessed his elation with his Nacra 20 ride at the bar after this past weeks Tuesday night race. If he weren’t so fast without a spin, he would have one on his lightweight ride. You can see it in his eyes!

Duck,

I have yet to not run aground at some point while sailing me fat overweight ride. Average groundings per trip are down to 1.762, which includes last weeks race. The Stihl may come in handy to lop off some of the boards, since there length is obviously the problem. It is certainly not where I’m heading the boat or the setting of the boards that I should be reconsidering.

Oh yeah,,,,,FEAR the Duck!
