[#13954]

I have this listing of running rigging lengths, many of which are contrary to some of my existing lines (i.e. mainsheet).

Any opinions and/or additions out there?

Main Halyard - 28' 3/16"
Jib Halyard - 23' 3/16"
Jib Sheet - 40' 5/16" continuous
Main Sheet/Traveler - 42' 3/8" continuous
Mast Rotator - 3' 1/4"
Outhaul - 10' 1/4"
Downhaul - 8' 1/4"

Thanks

Double the main halyard length; that sounds about like the mast height on a 5.2, you need twice the mast length "plus a little" to actually hoist the sail. Same for the jib halyard. Can't tell for the mainsheet; the purchase of your block system makes a difference.
good luck.

The main halyard length may seem short because it is half wire, half line. Perhaps the measurement is only for the line section.

Yeah, I should have been clearer on my original post.
I meant just the line portion.

Also the smaller measurements i.e. 3/8, 5/16 are for the line diameter.

If youre going to play the downhaul from the wire(which you should) your downhaul needs to be much longer. Id say 20ft, maybe longer.

Gotta ask all you experienced guys a question if I could. The last answer indicates adjusting the downhaul while on the wire. I'm totally new to a cat, and will be single handing my 5.2 - I just don't seem to have enough hands as I can tell. I've got to handle the tiller, and the mainsheet, and trap out and now also do the down haul? Our club has the "crushed can" award for doing the stupidest thing during the year. Any help in telling me how you would handle all those items as a "newbie" single hander so that I don't win the dreaded award would be appreciated!

David,
Can you describe how that's rigged? Cleat and block placement etc...

Thanks

Attach the end of your downhaul line to your trapeze wire. When you need the line, it is there with you. Hold the tiller and mainsheet (traveller line is tied to end of mainsheet), one in each hand. When you want to adjust downhaul, hold mainsheet with finger from tiller hand and make the adjustment. Then drop the downhaul and pick up the mainsheet again.
