RE: the 5.8, the NA rig vs. the standard is there really that much of a difference? This boat will be use for fun and recreational sailing.

And, what was the first year this boat was built?

Thanks.

I have an 83 5.8. It was the

standard

but as soon as the NA became available I upgraded to improve downwind performance. It helped but there are also other advantages to the NA kit. With the bridle foil you eliminate a lot inward pulling forces on the bows caused by a regular bridle. The NA kit also includes beam inserts to strengthen the main beam near the hulls. I later added a spinnaker to improve downwind performance even more.

I think the jib on the NA is cut different. The foil, in addition to keeping the bows true, allowed for a lower cut tack on the jib.
I miss that 5.8 bow spray.... <img src="<>/smile.gif" alt="smile" title="smile" height="15" width="15" />

Michael it is an entirely different, larger, jib. The hoist to the mast is the same but it comes down much lower.
