[#12920]

Anybody tried the power pole righting system on a Nacra 6.0? I'd like to know how well it has worked compared to a more traditional system...

Also....any issues with it being class legal for either N6.0 class or F20??

Thx in advance.

Joe

I have installed and used the pole on the I-20 with much ease! Should be no problem to use with the 6.0.

As far as I know, there are no class rules for "righting systems"...

Joe,

Will that motorcycle double wind speed or what?

The reason I designed the thing was because I was having so much trouble righting the N6.0. I know it works on that design.

Rick, still no reports of it working on 10 ft beam boats like Tornado?

Mike.

Thanks Rick....good feedback!! Can you explain how / where it anchors/pivots? It is unclear to me if it mounts to the crossmember or to the bottom of the dolphin striker...(which would make it more of a concern in regard to water drag... )

Also...do you know if there are any limit on using it with the N6.0 class racing?

Thx again!

Joe

There's nothing in the Nacra class rules that prohibit it. Hobie does however.

**** the pole up at about 30 to 40 degree angle (it stays there because you would have put a knot in the righting line that will slip through a loop attached to the ends of the main beam).
Now the pole is out and tilted upward. Reach out to the end of the pole and hang there -- the boat will come up.

No class restricts the righter that I know of.

Hope this helps,
Rick

Oooops! I stand corrected - not sure what I was thinking about! However, I was almost positive that the shroud lengthening devices were not...did they recently change this?

From the Hobie class rules:

Quote
8.2 A minimum* 3/8 in. (9.53 mm) diameter righting
line or webbing consisting of at least one 14 ft.
(4.27 meter) length of line or webbing, or two 8
ft. (2.44 meter) lengths of line or webbing shall
be securely attached and readily accessible
from each side of the boat. The righting lines or
webbing shall be in addition to all other required
equipment. (Unless specified differently in individual
boat class rules)
* Righting water bags, shroud lengthening devices,
righting pole type devices, and righting
systems other than the minimum system specified
may be carried and shall be used for righting
purposes only.

Rick, I am concerned about the idea of canting the righting pole up 30 degrees when in use. When the boat comes upright and the pole folds back, won’t one hull be on the pole? Do you limit the angle to prevent that or is the landing soft enough not to damage the pole and/or hull? You'll have to remember to free up the angle before you get aboard so it drags straight back for re-hooking amidships, right? Just one more thing for my tiny brain to forget...

The pole is perpendicula to the hulls when it goes in the water. When the boat is upright, the pole is pointing down into the water. Caution here: in shallow water you have to be sure you start pushing the pole aft so it does hit bottom and break.
Yes, once righted, take the knot out of the loop and get aboard. The pole will drift straight back. Reach over the back and resecure it to your aft beam.
