Sad news...

We are saddened to learn of the death of Olympic Tornado Gold medallist Reg White who passed away while racing his Brightlingsea One-Design last night.
Born in 1935, Reg won a gold medal in the 1976 Montreal Olympics and was a world-renowned boatbuilder.

Very fond memories of racing against that wily fox.... <img src="<>/smile.gif" alt="smile" title="smile" height="15" width="15" />

The world is a much poorer place without him. <img src="<>/frown.gif" alt="frown" title="frown" height="15" width="15" />
God bless, Reg. RIP.

Always friendly and helpful at events. The Irish gang will miss him - he was always very patient with us. We were looking forward to seeing him again at Regfest in September. Condolences to Rob, Henry and all the family. RIP.

A nice death, assuming that there is such a thing.

My condolances,

Anyone know what happened? I know we all would prefer to die while racing.

Heart Attack.

I'll have to bust out the old T in honor of Reg this weekend!

Sail on Reg, Thanks for your contribution to the sailing world!

I always found him openly prepared to support other catsailors at every level. A wise man of the old school of cat sailing. He will be sadly missed.

Bit more info coming out; Reg had been out sailing with one of his grandchildren and had a heart attack on the hard at Brightlingsea sailing club (his home club). He could not be saved. Family were at his side when he left us.

He helped a load of us

kids

as he called us who were campaigning for the 92/96 games; he / White formula provided a Tornado “loan” boat for the winner of the qualifying series each cycle and pushed UK cat sailing forward with his time and efforts and along with the rest of the White clan. He helped me a massive amount; he will be missed.

I was fortunate enough to meet and compete against Reg back in the 80’s. He had a wealth of knowledge about the T and was willing to share it. Great sailor, innovator and all round good guy.
