[#12463]

Any word on when the RTI is really going to happen? I am trying to line up crew for one of the weekends it is supposed to be on. We are real busy and need to plan a weekend now in order to attend the event.

On Randys site it is listed as the 19-21st. I have seen on a few other sites and heard people talking about the 26-28th.

Any help appreciated....

Thanks,

AJ

AJ,

Apparently they changed it due to the proximity of the Little America's Cup. It was originally planned for the later date (I know because it conflicted with one of our major local regattas). They then moved it forward a week to the 19th-21st to move farther away from the LAC. Call the Smyth Team - anyone there will should be able to verify. (and let us know if you hear any different).

Smyth Team: (850) 243-WIND {9463}

Aieee craaaap...the minute you think you have something figured out and...this from the old forum:

From Mike Kelly:

Quote
"The sponsoring body for 'Round the Island Race has been the Choctaw Multihull Association for the last 20 years. As a member Randy was the volunteer who was the lead person , without his availablility the CMA membership has stepped up to the plate in force and there are no questions as to the event status. As a matter of fact this has galvanized the local sailors to come to his aid and as such will probably be a great event, hurricanes not withstanding ! Watch for more information very soon on this site and spread the good news. "

and this also from Mike

Quote
"There will be a post Tuesday night as to the correct and final date of the Round The Island Race. We trust that wont mess up anyones travel plans. Thanks for your interest. "

Thanks Jake. I know about Randy and his situation. He is out of town until the middle of Sep.

I'll contact Mike Kelly.

It's official - it's back to the original date of Sept 27. That's out for us here in South Cackalaky - Area Dn Alter Cup Qualifier is the same weekend. Man, I'm gonna miss that race.

Me Too Jake. Song and Dance thing with the dates has been a major bummer. As you know this was to be my first RTI. Big Mike was gonna sail with me, nothing like having a veteran aboard. Have been spending a lot of time (& money) getting the new Inter 20 ready for it.. Can't compete with the Alter Cup Qualifiers being held in my Back Yard. I've already committed to that race.
Maybe we'll get some more traffic to our race here at Lake Murray. For details see Fleet 141's website.

Mike and I won't be coming either we have already commeted to the Area D. We also might be at the Tiger nationals and I would not want to make that 13 hour drive 2 weekends in a row. I hope you have good weather and good winds for RTI.

David,

Why not leave your boat, gear, and car (if you can get by without it for a week) in Pensacola and fly back and forth for the week in between events? I have been commuting weekly for almost a year and a half from Pensacola to Raleigh. You can pick up an ailine ticket for around $188. I am sure some of us locals could accommodate your boat/car for a week or find you a safe place to keep it. I'll offer you my place now. I'm 5 minutes from the airport. Hate to see you miss such a great race. E-mail me if I can help you out.

You commute to Raleigh?

Jesus. The apartment market here is so saturated, I bet someone would PAY you to stay here.

MauganH17,

Yes, I commute to Raleigh about every week. I may have to look into an apartment if this continues, which it looks like it will. I sure know my way around RDU Airport now. Let me know if you need me to shuttle you any boat parts back and forth. I see Capt. Kirk at Key Sailing on Pensacola Beach about every week end.

RDU isn't so bad. There are far worse airports.

I'll keep that in mind about the parts

Don

Thanks for the info and invite. That is a good idea, except I am going to do the Alter Cup area D in Columbia. It is about a 3 hour drive and big Outback steaks instead of hamburgers at 1:00 am in the morning. I still love the RTI race and it would have just worked out where I could have done both regattas if RTI was on the 20th, but you can't have everything.

David,

Good Luck at the Alter Cup qualifier. Maybe we'll get you down for RTI next year. I'll look for you the week before at the Hobie Tiger Regatta. I'm sure I'll be out there during the week end.

Good Luck!

Dave:
I was going to do both events too, wasn't going to be a whole lot of breathing room between races.
Glad to hear you're joining us. We are redoing the beach (Again) prior to the Outback Cup regatta. Free Camping with electric available, excellent facilities at Columbia Sailing Club, Great party and a Raffle Table that groaned from the weight of the prizes last year.
Columbia Sailing Club adopted Fleet 141 last year and has made every effort to make our active racing catamaran fleet feel welcome. The basin in front on the Lake Murray Dam provides a deep consistent racing area, We generally always have a temp and pressure differential from the top of the lake to the dam, always creates some kind of air no matter what the rest of the conditions may be like.
Is our first time hosting the Alter Cup qualifiers, we're trying to make it memorable for the participants.
Look forward to seeing you here.
Cary Palmer
