[#23379]

Hi All.
I have a nice asymmetrical spinnaker from my old Lightning. I wanted to begin researching if it could be, and how it would be launched from my 18' solcat.

Does anyone have any advice, links, reccomendations and etc.

Thanks very much

An asym, off a Lightning? You sure about that?

Sounds like a potential hooter to me! Do a little searching on this site and you'll find lots of info. A hooter is basically an asymetrical setup that furls. Just my .02 since I like the one I rigged

aftermarket

for my own boat.

Oooh. I like it, a forum with knowledgeable sailors Quick on the draw. <img src=

Actually it came off of a good friend's Catalina Capri (or something like that) because it was too small for that boat. It worked great for the Lightning (which wasn't class sailed.)

the sail is crispy cape-cod potato chips new.

The Lightning is a very cool boat. An old Sparkman Stephens design. As a kid I spent many weekends racing on one, and it's little brother, the Blue Jay.

Lipstick on a pig....So you wanna put Lipstick on a pig....
Here is my effort...
35 year old epoxy/wooden A-cat with Hobie 18SX chute (I got it free). Results were qute good- 6th place in Mug Race pictured here: with 162 other boats competing..
I have also had up a Posey Supercat17 chute (terrible),
420 chute, a tiny postage stamp- (useless),
Hobie 20 North chute used inteh Worrell 1000 (too big but nice if there is a breeze._
F18 chute (shape wierd, needs adjustment of pole, leads etc.)_
I built the pole: 13 ft of a carbon fiber windsurfer mast bottom (free), also ss 1x19 small wires midpole to the bow (free), 2 lines to the front end of the pole (free).
Other old used parts.....
Its a hoot- great fun and has never been turned over yet-even with all singlehanding.

Thanks for the input on the setup, while the jawing is rather useless. My boat floats, and as an added bonus it is faster than all the boats around me (5 hobie 16's)
And if it has to be a pissing contest, then I do have a boat with Lars Guck for a couple more weeks.

the windsurfer mast is a good idea. No, Great idea.
I can vaguely see how it's all setup off of the pole, but how about launching/retrieving, etc. any details you can share would be awesome.
Thanks
