anyone in Holland has a spare n6.0 mainsail and daggerboard left?
That was INCREDIBLE! My stomach was in a knot the first part. I just kept hearing "$$$$chi-ching$$$$" everytime one of them would get laid out by a wave. Flying a spinaker in that stuff is hard core. Of course, I guess just doing that race is hard core. Very cool video!

Sander,
Nice work. A great video.
Here comes a 'stupid' question;
I saw footage of relative smooth water. The boats were still hi-speed, so the wind was not blocked.
Why couldn't the race be started at this spot? the RC could modify the course to make up for any lose in distance,..and there would not be 'carnage' in the surf.
Otherwise, once again, nice work.

I did the race this year, the place you described is in the NE part of the island in sheltered water. We got about 20-25kts of wind there and in flat water that means serious speed!!
There are several reasons: the beach up there can't accomodate 600 boats, the area is part of a National Park, and its not as spectacular.

I think it's also a little bit of a tradition to start the race at "Paal 17". Very important are the currents around the island, the race must be started before a certain time otherwise the boats can't reach the other side of the island.
I think the carnage would even be bigger when starting downwind with 20-25 knots of wind with 500+ catamarans
Normally the Round is sailed clockwise, but there's also a possibility the race-commitee can change to anti-clockwise.
This year most of the catamarans went out to late and found the big surf. The early deciders had a much better surf. Also the surf at "Paal 15", some 500 meters more south, was much better.
